Lower End canal shutdown and repair

April 4th @ 2:06 P.M.

The Roza main canal has a leak at mile post 85.6 (just upstream of Case Rd.) and we are shutting it down below Wasteway 6 which will take about 18 hours.

Our crew is placing clay material in the canal currently and tomorrow morning will begin to “core” the embankment, which means to dig a deep trench and refill it with compacted clay/dirt to stop the leak. Doing so will take at least 24 hours. There are a couple of variables that could complicate the repair once we get into the canal embankment with the excavators. Those unknowns will remain unknown until we get into the repair.

Refilling the canal will take 12-24 hours. Dewatering and refilling must occur in ramped stages to prevent damage to the canal.

Pumps 16 and 17 are off line this afternoon as well.

With subfreezing weather coming this week we will work around the clock on the repair but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to deliver water by the end of Thursday.

This site is an active construction zone, please keep clear of the area.
